Local Artist Velia Lala selected for prestigious residency in Romania

Lala selected as one of only twelve in the world to attend

Shalimar, FLA. (Date)… Local artist, Velia Lala, was chosen to join eleven other artists from around the world for an Artist Residency Program in Sibiu, Romania, presented by the Dacia Gallery. Artists travel to Sibiu for an intensive four week program meant to inspire and redefine the creative directions of those selected to participate.

Owner of Dacia Gallery, Lee Vasu, personally asked Lala to submit her work for the artist residency for the 2018 Sibiu trip. Lala, along with 11 others, were selected by a highly acclaimed jury to attend the program beginning June 1, 2018. When asked about the residency program Velia said,  “It is an incredible opportunity to be chosen for this residency, I am thrilled to be in Romania and to be apart of this experience!”

Dacia Gallery, located in New York City, was founded in 2010 by artist Lee Vasu. Originally from Sibiu, Romania, Vasu has curated multiple exhibitions that ultimately led to his inspiration for opening the Dacia Gallery. The contemporary art gallery offers museum quality artwork from solo and groups of both established and emerging artists. Notable artists include Stephen Early, Max Ginsburg, Maria Kreyn, and Patricia Watwood.

As Lala takes part in this opportunity of a lifetime, she will be given the chance to paint natural landscapes of the mountains and fields of Romania, explore the medieval city of Sibiu, and see popular landmarks such as Black Church of Brasov and the star shaped citadel fortress of Alba Lulia. The program focuses on eight disciplines; Composition, Critical studies, Curatorial, Design, Drawing, Fine art, Painting, Visual Arts.

The residency program is open to visual artists of all mediums and styles worldwide. Following the residency, Velia will have the opportunity to showcase her work in the Dacia Gallery itself come November 2018.
